Blå Station is a Swedish company making furniture mainly for public spaces, but also for the home. It was founded in the mid-1980s in Åhus, in southern Sweden, by the designer Börge Lindau and his children Mimi and Johan Lindau, who run it today.

The name and the origins

The name combines BLÅ, an acronym of Börge, Lindau and Åhus (and the Swedish word for "blue"), with station, the station as a place of meetings and departures. Börge Lindau (1932-1999) was already an established designer, who since the 1960s had designed many collections for Lammhults with Bo Lindekrantz. Blå Station's first pieces were chairs, tables and stools built around birch rings, in birch and stainless steel.

Designers and awards

The company's style has changed over time through collaborations with designers such as Fredrik Mattson, Stefan Borselius, Jonas Forsman, Cate & Nelson, Osko + Deichmann, Mia Cullin and Tomoyuki Matsuoka. Several products carry the Nordic Swan ecolabel. Blå Station has received awards such as the Red Dot Design Award (2004, 2006, 2007 and 2010), Design S in 2008 and the Swedish Årets Möbel, "furniture of the year", in 2003.
