Luca Perlini was born in 1982 and works in Parabiago, near Milan. A designer and artist, he is the founder of Luca Perlini design studio, which brings together computing, architecture, art and contemporary furniture.
He grew up between the digital world and traditional craftsmanship, learned in his family, and studied at the Politecnico di Milano. His thoughts on quality are gathered in moral design: materials that show what they are, objects made to last and be repaired, no planned obsolescence.
The furniture
His furniture has clean lines and leaves its materials on show, worked by hand by Italian master craftsmen. The Ozio armchair draws on 1950s design: a natural steel frame with a beeswax finish and a seat in abrasion-resistant technical fabric.
The Equilibrio coat hanger comes from the works of the sculptor Fausto Melotti, with an ash sphere balanced on steel. Bitta is a steel hook that holds static loads of up to 100 kg with a single wall plug. The Elle table pairs a satin-finished steel base with a solid fir top, and the Valentina canopy bed is in burnished metal.
Among the smaller objects are the Stella Sashimono trivet, three interlocking aluminum pieces, and the Sticks trivet. Many of these pieces are on sale on PurplePrice.
Art and poetry
Alongside the furniture he pursues an artistic research made of three-dimensional works and technical materials. Concetto spaziale, prospettiva (2016) uses carbon fiber rods on white canvas; Quadro 17 (2014) metal, galvanized sheet, neodymium magnets and bronze filings. Paesaggio sovrumano (2014) and Santa Virginia Martire (2015) won awards at the Concorso Estemporaneo di Pittura in Barbaiana.
In 2018 he published Frasi sconnesse, a collection of poems in Italian with black and white illustrations.
