Minotti is a company based in Meda, in Brianza, known above all for its sofas and upholstered furniture: low, sober shapes, fine materials and tailored finishes, in a style the company itself calls “classic-modern”. It is also a typical example of a Brianza family business, led by three generations.
Workshop and industry
The company was born in 1948 from an idea of Alberto Minotti, as a small craft workshop. It grew quickly and from the 1960s took on an industrial size and character. In 1991, after their father's premature death, his sons Renato and Roberto Minotti, who had already worked in the company for years, took the helm and began expanding into international markets.
Rodolfo Dordoni
In 1998 the Milanese architect Rodolfo Dordoni became art director and coordinator of all the collections. With him the company developed what it calls the “Minotti code”: timeless elegance, understatement, continuity with tradition and craft attention to detail, following the principle of “innovation in the spirit of continuity”. Product development runs through Minotti Studio, the in-house creative centre that follows projects from architecture to prototyping and communication.
New voices
Since 2018, still coordinated by Dordoni, Minotti has opened its collections to other designers: the Frenchman Christophe Delcourt, the Japanese studio Nendo and the Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan with Studio MK27, who in 2021 signed the Studio Collection of tables and desks for home and office. They were followed by the Italian-Danish duo GamFratesi (2019) and the Japanese-Danish duo Inoda+Sveje (2022). Meanwhile the family's third generation has joined the company. In 2022 the brand was entered in Italy's special register of historic trademarks of national interest, and today it is present in about 80 countries.
