lamps from Barcelona since 1932: from a metalworking workshop to designs by André Ricard and Enric Franch

Metalarte is a Spanish lighting company founded in Barcelona in 1932. Today it is based in Canovelles, in the province of Barcelona.

From metal to light

The company began as a metalworking workshop, founded by Antonio Riera Clariana, which at first also made lamps to order. Over time lighting became its main business.

The designers

In the 1960s and 1970s the company renewed its range and began working with outside designers, including André Ricard and Enric Franch, designer of the Calder table lamp of 1975. Many Metalarte lamps from those years are now sought after on the vintage market. In 2013 the company moved its headquarters from Sant Joan Despí to Canovelles.
