Dada is an Italian brand of high-end kitchens. Born as a carpenter's workshop on the outskirts of Milan, it grew into an industry specialising in kitchens and since 1979 it has been part of the Molteni Group, together with Molteni&C.

The Garavaglia workshop

The company was founded in 1926 by Angelo Garavaglia under the name “Angelo Garavaglia e figli, fabbrica mobili” in Marcallo con Casone, a small village near Magenta. At first it was a craft workshop making furniture and window frames. In the 1950s, with new sheds next to the old workshop, it became a factory producing furniture and kitchens in series.

Dada is born

Driven by the economic boom and by the ideas of the founder's sons, Pierino, Lorenzo, Virginio and Gaetano, the company kept growing. In 1972 it took the name “DADA, mobili d'alta cucina” and moved to new premises in Mesero, where it still is today. Its style changed through work with designers such as Angelo Cortesi, Georges Coslin and Giovanni Offredi, and Dada became one of the leading names in high-end kitchens.

In the Molteni Group

In 1979, after 53 years, the Garavaglia family sold the company to the Molteni Group, which still owns it. Since then Dada has worked with designers such as Michele De Lucchi, Norman Foster, Ferruccio Laviani, Dante Bonuccelli, Luca Meda and Studio Cerri & Associati. The Futura wall unit received a Compasso d'Oro honourable mention (Segnalazione) in 1987 and the Nomis kitchen another in 2004 (see Compasso d'Oro).
